In the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam's shellfish exports were led by clams, which accounted for 66% of the total shellfish export value, reaching nearly $21 million, marking a 36% increase from the same period in 2021. The main importers include the EU, US, South Korea, Singapore, the UK, and Japan. The EU, particularly Italy and Spain, showed the most significant growth in imports. Vietnam's leading clam-exporting provinces are Thanh Hoa, Ben Tre, and Nam Dinh, benefiting from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the quality and reputation of their clam products. VASEP emphasizes the need for investing in modern technology to meet export quality standards and improve the processing of fresh, frozen, and canned clams.
