Dragon fruit gardens on the path to emission reduction On a sunny and windy piece of land, Mr. Bùi Minh Công in Hamlet 7, Hàm Thuận Commune, has planted over 1 hectare of dragon fruit, persistently pursuing the VietGAP cultivation model combined with emission reduction. Previously, he had to use incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps to prevent fruit drop. Each crop season, lighting for nearly 900 dragon fruit trees consumed up to 8,500-9,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to 17-19 million Vietnamese dong. The cost was high, while the pressure to reduce carbon emissions was increasing, prompting him to seek a new direction. An opportunity arose when he participated in a program supporting the conversion to energy-saving 9W LED lamps implemented by the UNDP.
