Vietnam is a significant importer of cashew nuts, mainly from Cambodia, which supplies over 98% of its cashew output to Vietnam. In the first five months of the year, Vietnam imported 759,421 tons of cashew nuts from Cambodia, worth over 971 million USD. Despite lower import prices, both the volume and value of imports have risen compared to the previous year. Vietnam aims to reach a cashew export target of 4 billion USD by 2024 but faces challenges due to its dependence on imported raw materials. Free trade agreements are anticipated to benefit the cashew export sector by lowering taxes for businesses involved in deep processing.
