Hungary's walnut harvest in 2022 is projected to reach over 15,000 tons, a significant 140 percent increase compared to the average of the past five years. Despite a decrease in shelled nut exports, the foreign trade balance remains positive. The value of walnut exports to Germany increased by 11 percent, offsetting the decrease in volume. The import of nut shells became a negative balance on the balance sheet in 2019 but has decreased in volume while increasing in value. Domestic walnut kernels sold at a 5 percent lower price in the early weeks of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
