Manual harvesting has started in Şanlıurfa, which accounts for 30% of Turkey's cumin production. Farmers are pleased with the high yield, producing 3,500 tons of cumin on 50,000 decares. Şanlıurfa's Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Mehmet Aksoy, attributed the increased yields to improved irrigation from the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). Farmer Mehmet Türk highlighted that cumin is more profitable than wheat and barley, suggesting that the success of such alternative crops could enhance the region's exports.
