The Guijuelo Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) has requested a new quality seal, IGP Carne de Guijuelo, for meats that do not need to be located in Salamanca, a move opposed by the Andalusian Government. The Andalusian government argues that this will mislead consumers about the product's true origin, as the meat would be raised, fattened, slaughtered, and cut hundreds of kilometers from Salamanca. The proposal aims to include other regions in Spain for the production of pigs, while the Andalusian government insists that the name Carne de Guijuelo should only be used for products with a specific quality or reputation due to their geographical origin, contradicting the proposal's goal to expand the area.
