The French Ministry of Agriculture predicts a 6.8% reduction in the total area dedicated to grain crops for the 2024 harvest, amounting to 6.81 million hectares. This includes a notable 7.7% decrease in soft wheat areas, totaling 4.39 million hectares, primarily due to significant rainfall from mid-October 2023 that impacted winter crop sowing. Despite these challenges, the ministry expects an increase in spring crops, with spring barley areas projected to rise by 10.7% to 0.5 million hectares and spring soft wheat by 6.4% to 0.02 million hectares. However, the area for grain leguminous crops is set to fall by 4.3% to 0.27 million hectares.
