Due to a surge in global food prices, Belarus has increased state regulation of prices for socially significant goods. The Ministry for Anti-Monopoly Regulation and Competition Protection (MARCH) has issued a resolution to regulate the prices of several food products, including meat offal, canned beef stew, canned pork, live and frozen fish, margarine, instant coffee, black tea, and table salt. The resolution also changes the approach to price regulation, setting a maximum surcharge for certain products. This comes as Belarus sees an annual consumer price growth acceleration, with global food prices increasing by 37.5% in May 2021.
