In its latest report on global sugar supply and demand, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirms that world production and consumption could reach new record levels in the current 2025/2026 campaign. As already anticipated last May, production will approach 190 million tons, mainly due to the expected increase in the world's two leading sugar-producing countries - Brazil and India - which will more than offset the decline expected in the European Union. Brazil will obtain around 44.4 million tons due to favorable weather conditions that have improved yields. The sugar/ethanol ratio will tilt in favor of sugar, with 51% of cane production destined for sugar manufacturing and 49% for ethanol. Consumption will remain stable, so the country will have a larger volume to export.
