The pomegranate sector in Morocco's Beni Mellal Khenifra region has seen significant growth, with the planted area increasing by over 85% from 2008 to 2020 and production growing by over 71% since the start of the Morocco Green Plan. The sector created around 300,000 working days and produced 53,000 tons of pomegranates in the 2019/2020 season, surpassing targets. The Abdullah Sons Cooperative was established for production and marketing, and a packing unit with a capacity of 20,000 tons was built, allowing access to foreign markets. The sector plans to further modernize its infrastructure, including constructing air-conditioning plants, cold stores, and expanding irrigation circles. A project to establish a pomegranate juice production unit is also in the works.
