The State Environmental Council (Coema) of Pará, Brazil, has published a resolution to regulate meliponiculture, the activity of raising native stingless bees. The regulation provides guidelines for environmental licensing and sustainable management of native bees, allowing meliponiculturists to sell products and by-products. Larger producers will find it easier to obtain authorizations for managing and creating more hives. This regulation is expected to have a positive impact on forest restoration through increased pollination. The regulation was developed with contributions from beekeepers and other stakeholders, building on Embrapa's research since the 1990s.
