Unión de Uniones and PALCA are advocating for equal protection and fair prices for Canarian banana producers in an upcoming review of the Food Chain Law. They criticize ASPROCAN for excluding the Canarian banana from the law's protection, resulting in lower price guarantees for PGI farmers. They argue that ASPROCAN should focus on marketing its members' products under the best conditions instead of trying to pay below production costs. UdeU also questions ASPROCAN's representation of farmers and highlights the challenges of the IGP Plátano de Canarias, including poor management and credibility issues, which affect over seven thousand producers.
