[Agricultural, Fisheries, and Livestock Newspaper=Reporter Nara Park] The Chungnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services urged thorough preventive management for greenhouse farmers, especially those growing strawberries and other protected crops, as the risk of disease and pest outbreaks in greenhouses during winter is rapidly increasing. In winter, the drop in nighttime temperatures and large diurnal temperature variations lead to a rapid increase in humidity, creating an environment particularly conducive to the spread of diseases such as gray mold, powdery mildew, and downy mildew. Gray mold, a representative disease that occurs mainly from December to April, surges under low-temperature and high-humidity conditions around 20°C, making humidity control through heating and ventilation essential. During ventilation, care must be taken to ensure that cold winds do not directly hit the flowers to prevent frost damage.
