The Council of Ministers has approved a royal decree regulating the direct granting of aid to compensate for the damage caused to agricultural activity by the major fires that occurred last summer. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food estimates that around 3,000 farmers and around 1,500 livestock farmers will benefit from these aids, with the total amount reaching approximately 27 million euros. The minister, Luis Planas, has assured that "the Government has once again wanted to adopt effective aid measures that complement the recovery of the damages suffered." With the approval of these aids, the Government is fulfilling the announcement made by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in the Congress of Deputies last September 24 and clearly shows its commitment to those affected by the fires that burned between June and September 350,000 hectares, of which 10% are cultivated land.
