The Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt has successfully executed a two-year research program led by the Desert Research Center to explore the cultivation of cassava, a crop known for its resilience to high heat and low fertilizer needs. This non-traditional crop, highlighted as a potential alternative to strategic crops like wheat, is expected to enhance food security, especially with the challenges of climate change. The program has received support from rural women, who have received training in the production of cassava flour and starch. Additionally, Tiba Company has expressed interest in marketing cassava products locally and internationally, aiming to further boost the crop's acceptance and contribution to food security in Egypt.
