Peruvian ginger exports have experienced a surge since the pandemic, rising from the 25th to the 12th position among the country's most exported agricultural products in 2021. This trend continued into 2023, with a 60% increase in volume and 76% increase in value compared to the same period in 2022, totaling 30,204 tons and US$ 40 million respectively. The average price per kilogram also increased by 10% to US$ 1.32. This growth is largely due to the Dutch market, which has compensated for the lower supply from China, the world's largest producer. Despite the potential competition from Brazil, which offers lower prices, the demand for Peruvian ginger has continued to grow, driven by its new uses in the food and medicinal industries.
