Recent data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in Egypt has shown a notable increase in the country's imports of agricultural commodities, with a significant rise in hazelnut imports. In December, imports of "Currel" type hazelnuts surged to 123 million and 344 thousand pounds (7 million and 709 thousand dollars), up from 6 million and 528 thousand pounds (408 thousand dollars) in December 2019, marking an 116 million and 816 thousand pound (7 million and 301 thousand dollars) increase. Overall, Egypt's agricultural imports increased by 222 million and 432 thousand pounds (13 million and 902 thousand dollars) to 11 billion and 825 million pounds (739 million and 114 thousand dollars) in the same period. Other imported commodities include wheat and fresh apples, with their values also increasing compared to the previous year.
