The Spanish fleet of 15 vessels that fishes in Atlantic waters off Senegal can resume operations for 2022, following the signing of the licenses by the Senegalese Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Alioun Ndoy. The licenses had been held up since 2021 despite being processed and paid for, leading to a paralysis of the community fleet's activity. The agreement is significant for the sustainable fishing collaboration between Senegal and the European Union, with an annual reference tonnage of 14,000 tonnes offered to 28 freezer tuna vessels, including 16 from Spain.
