The EU wins the lawsuit against the US for tariffs on Spanish black olives

This Tuesday, the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreed with the EU in its lawsuit against the United States for not complying with a ruling regarding black olives from Spain. The report of the WTO Special Group published this Tuesday once again gives the EU a clear and resounding victory. It confirms that the United States did not implement the recommendations of the original Panel, namely the conclusion that the US legal provision that served as the basis for imposing anti-subsidy duties on Spanish black olives is inconsistent with WTO rules. Before the duties were imposed in 2017, Spain was the largest exporter of black olives to the United States: the value of imports was US$67 million, representing 76% of US black olive imports. In 2022, Spain's exports to the United States amounted to only $20 million and accounted for 26% of US imports.
