The Prognosfruit conference in Budapest revealed a significant decrease in apple production, with a 11.3% drop compared to the previous year and a 13.6% decrease compared to the average of the past three years, bringing the total to 10.2 million tons. This production level is reminiscent of the 2012 drought season. In contrast, pear production is projected to see a slight increase of 4.9% to 1.79 million tons. With the domestic apple harvest showing a downward trend since 2012, the availability of the popular Golden delicious, Gala, and Red delicious varieties is expected to decrease by 10%, 11%, and 3% respectively, while Idared is expected to decrease by 18%.
