Vine leaves, a crucial component of Turkish cuisine, are increasingly being exported from Manisa, a major grape-producing region in Turkey. Women collect these leaves, which extend the season's income, mainly for local sale but also for exporting companies that preserve them in brine for international markets. These exports, primarily to the EU, Mediterranean, and Middle East, saw a 31% increase in the first four months of 2022, generating $32.6 million in 2021. With expectations to reach $40 million this year, vine leaf exports are becoming a significant revenue source, especially for women.
