The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for food and non-alcoholic beverages in Portugal remained stable in March at a monthly rate, but increased by 1.4% annually, largely due to a 2.9% decrease in fish prices. The prices of fresh and frozen fish, and sheep meat fell by 0.8% compared to February, while poultry meat and oils and fats prices rose by 1.6% and 1.3% respectively. The largest annual price increases were seen in fruits, mineral water, soft drinks and juices, sheep meat and vegetables, while the most significant annual decreases were in fresh and frozen fish, eggs and coffee, cocoa and infusions. The CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco also remained stable in March at a monthly rate, but decreased by 0.1% in the annual rate. The general CPI saw its highest annual variation rate since April 2019, rising by 1.3% from February.
