The Korea Agricultural and Fishery Union expressed anticipation regarding the record high prices of rice harvested in 2025, urging the government to actively take measures to reduce agricultural production costs. According to the National Data Agency, the price of rice harvested in 2025 was 239,400 won per 80kg on December 29 last year, marking a 25.0% increase from the previous year and a 16.2% increase from the average year, the highest on record. The price of rice from the fields in October 2024 was 188,156 won per 80kg, the lowest since 2018. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs preemptively isolated 262,000 tons from the market and supported the distribution of 55,000 tons of government rice through a loan system, exceeding the expected overproduction in 2024.
