Turkey, renowned as the world's leading cherry producer, has initiated its 2024 cherry harvest in the Şehzadeler district of Manisa, starting a week earlier than the previous year due to an early spring. The district is home to 2.4 million of the nation's 22 million cherry trees. The season's first cherry was sold for a symbolic 2 thousand TL, highlighting the significance of the event. With a production of 725 thousand tons, Turkey is aiming to surpass its previous export records by targeting 100 thousand tons of cherries for export, which is expected to generate 250 million dollars in revenue. The country is also looking to expand its export markets, including efforts to begin exporting to China, as it seeks to enhance its position among the leading cherry exporters globally. In 2023, Turkey achieved 215 million dollars in cherry exports, with Germany, the Russian Federation, and Austria being the primary importers.
