A new salmon farm in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, is expected to be sold for about 8.4 billion forints in 2022, with the first harvest expected in 2024 and funded by the Hungarian Fisheries Operational Program, bank loans, and investor resources. The company, Zalmon Kft., will employ 26 people and produce around 300,000 fish by the end of 2024, with the goal of increasing Hungary's fisheries exports by nearly 30% and creating a basis for future exports. The farm will use a Recirculating Aquaculture System, which is sustainable, environmentally friendly, and requires less water, and will produce salmon for both domestic consumption and export, with no plans to sell live fish in Zala.
