On November 24, the cargo ship MAERSK YUKON carrying the first container of Chilean cherries for the 2025/26 production season arrived in Hong Kong, and after customs inspection, it was transferred to Shanghai. This morning, the first container of cherries was opened for sale at the Shanghai Huizhan Fruit Wholesale Market.
It is understood that the only container of Chilean cherries on the MAERSK YUKON, supplied by top Chilean grower and exporter Garces Fruit, contains a total of 17.6 tons of cherries. The varieties include BLACK PEARL (黑珍珠), ROYAL DAWN (皇家黎明), and RAINIER (雷尼尔). The cherries are mainly of sizes J/2J/3J, with primary packaging being red car Garces Fruit 2n1 (2.5kgx2), San Francisco 5kg, RED DREAMS 5kg, and yellow car Garces Fruit 2n1 (2.2kgx2).
International Fruit Report interviewed Fu Lei, Sales and Marketing Director of Garces Fruit China, who introduced the strategic upgrades of the Garces Fruit brand for the new production season: "First, there is an upgrade in quality control, further improving the selection standards for Garces Fruit packaged cherries at the source. Second, the brand strategy focuses on high-quality early-ripening varieties—SANTINA (桑提娜), expanding the planting area of this variety in Chile. This move aims to optimize the early cherry supply rhythm, allowing Chinese consumers to enjoy high-quality Chilean cherries earlier."
With the arrival of the first sea-shipped container of cherries in the Chinese market, more fast ships will successively arrive, marking the full launch of the sea-shipped import channel for this production season.
It is reported that the first cherry fast line, MSC LOME V, departed from San Antonio Port, Chile, on November 11, and is scheduled to dock at Nansha Port on December 6. The ship carries approximately 452 containers of Chilean cherries, with Garces Fruit cherries accounting for about 153 containers.
Additionally, the HMM BLESSING, which departed from Valparaiso Port, Chile, on November 14, is scheduled to dock in Hong Kong on December 7. The ship carries about 366 containers of Chilean cherries, with Garces Fruit cherries accounting for about 62 containers.
| Part of Garces Fruit Shipping Schedule for 25/26 Production Season
Data released by the Chilean Cherry Committee under the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (Frutas de Chile) shows that the total export volume of cherries for the 25/26 production season will reach 131 million boxes, slightly higher than the previous season's record. Due to the extremely late date of the 2026 Spring Festival (February 17), the main shipping period for Chilean cherries this season will be adjusted from December to January. Thanks to the extended trading window, the cherry sales peak season this year is expected to be longer than in previous years, bringing new opportunities for exporters to achieve stable supply.
