The Spanish fleet has asked the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to take advantage of his trip to Mauritania to ensure compliance with and the future of the agreement that the African country maintains with the European Union (EU), the most important one in fishing matters.
Sánchez's trip with seven of his ministers to Mauritania this Wednesday, to hold the first bilateral summit, is a good opportunity, in the opinion of Spanish shipowners, to strengthen Spain's fishing relationship with that country, framed within the EU protocol.
"It is a good time to point out the importance of Mauritania for us and also to remind them that the protocol should be respected by both parties," said Javier Garat, secretary general of the shipowners' association Cepesca and president of the European fishing companies association Europêche, to Efeagro.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, will travel to Mauritania with Sánchez.
