The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has stated that there is no data on the supply of salmonella-infected melons or other fresh fruits and vegetables, contradicting reports from the European Commission (EC) about a possible salmonella outbreak from the bacterium S. Braenderup in several EU countries. The BFSA clarified that the EC's notification did not provide specific laboratory evidence of salmonella in fresh produce and that no data was available on the source of melons received in Bulgaria. The agency confirmed that all melons in Bulgaria are currently of local origin, with no new deliveries from Honduras and Brazil, and no infections have been reported in users in Bulgaria.
