The Food and Drug Safety Administration and Jeonnam province join hands to strengthen safety management of pickled cabbage and dried laver.

The Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA) (Director Oh Yoo-kyung) announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Jeollanam-do Province (Governor Kim Young-rok) on the 21st to strengthen the hygiene and safety management of simply processed agricultural, livestock, and fishery products. Simply processed agricultural, livestock, and fishery products are those that have undergone only simple processes such as cutting, peeling, drying, and washing, without using food additives or other ingredients, and can still be recognized in their original form, such as dried laver, dried seaweed, and pickled cabbage. There has been criticism that simply processed agricultural, livestock, and fishery products lack hygiene management because they are not legally required to register for food manufacturing and processing businesses.
