France's agriculture ministry has downgraded its estimates for winter cereal acreage due to heavy rainfall disrupting farming activities. The area allocated to winter wheat for the 2024 harvest is now 4.36 million hectares, a 7.7% decrease from last year and the second-lowest since 1994. The ministry also lowered its estimates for winter barley and winter rapeseed areas. However, the area for durum wheat, used in pasta production, is slightly higher than previously estimated, but still 14% below the five-year average.
