On September 22, the General Administration of Customs website issued a notice regarding the inspection, quarantine, and health requirements for the import of Burmese macadamia nuts, allowing the import of Burmese macadamia nuts that meet the relevant requirements.

Burmese macadamia nuts are primarily grown in Shan State, followed by Kachin State, Chin State, and Mandalay Region, with a total planting area of over 12,000 acres. Specifically, macadamia nuts grown in the Ywangan area of Shan State are harvested twice a year, in spring and autumn.

The notice indicates that the Burmese macadamia nuts allowed for import are those made from the fruit of macadamia nuts grown in Myanmar, processed through peeling, drying, and selection within Myanmar, and are intended for human consumption as shelled nuts.

Burmese macadamia nuts imported into China must not contain the following quarantine pests of concern to China: Cryptolestes ferrugineus, Lasioderma serricorne, Tribulus terrestris, and Cynodon dactylon. The macadamia nuts should be dehydrated using ovens or drying machines, must not contain live insects, and must be free from other impurities, additives, or contaminants. During processing, defective nuts, moldy nuts, husks, and weed seeds should be removed.

Myanmar should inspect the production, processing, and storage units of Burmese macadamia nuts for import into China according to the requirements for the registration of overseas food production enterprises in China. Units that meet the requirements should be recommended to China. China will register the qualified enterprises. The raw materials for Burmese macadamia nuts should come from planting enterprises that have been confirmed by Myanmar to meet the relevant plant quarantine and food safety requirements and have been registered.

Burmese macadamia nuts should be packaged in clean, hygienic, new materials that meet food safety and plant quarantine requirements, and should be protected against spillage during transportation. Before shipment, Myanmar should inspect the transportation tools for Burmese macadamia nuts. The transportation tools must meet health and quarantine requirements and must not contain quarantine pests or other restricted quarantine objects, such as weed seeds, live insects, plant residues, soil, and other foreign impurities.
