The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) predicts a long recession in the global fish market, even after quarantine restrictions are lifted, due to decreased global demand, increased business expenses, reduced aquaculture raw material stocks, higher logistics costs, and staff shortages. The pandemic has changed consumer behavior, leading to an increase in retail demand for canned and frozen products. However, demand for fresh fish and seafood has significantly decreased, particularly in the premium segment. The global salmon market is projected to fall by at least 15%. Fish farmers are seeking financial assistance and flexibility in adjusting catch quotas from state regulators. The All-Russian Association of Fishery Producers is proposing the abolition of excessive legislation to stimulate business growth.
