The goat milk sector confirms the difficult situation of farmers and cheese manufacturers due to the lack of profitability in Spain

In general, the economic value of livestock production (all species) is 20,233 million euros, of which 3,281 million correspond to the final production of milk, according to the latest official data. 11% of the value of the final production of the dairy sector corresponds to the goat sector, which translates into about 361 million euros. But the situation in the sector is not easy, neither for farmers nor for industries, who fear for its viability. Labor costs, electricity, health prevention costs have skyrocketed during the pandemic and in general all supplies for farmers and manufacturers, to which are added other adverse factors such as the closure of thousands of hotels and restaurants and the collapse of tourism -a very important channel for goat cheese sales- or the tariffs imposed on cheese by the previous Trump Administration, in the US, although finally temporarily revoked.
