The Government has approved the draft law on control, inspection, and the sanctioning regime for maritime fishing to adapt Spanish regulations to the latest EU modifications. The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, specified in the press conference following the Council of Ministers that the draft law "updates" the current maritime fishing law from 2001, which was previously reformed through the sustainable fishing law. Promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, the text aims to strengthen inspection and control, and the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing to guarantee a more sustainable and transparent fishery management.
