The Government Council of Mallorca has approved a five-year, 1.2 million euro contract to Semilla, the agricultural public service, to Tragsa for agricultural experimentation. The project will focus on improving knowledge and boosting the competitiveness of the carob and almond crops. The research will be conducted at experimental farms in Mallorca, with a focus on evaluating the agronomic behavior and self-fertility of carob varieties, and the adaptation and behavior of late-flowering almond varieties to the local conditions. The project will also investigate the influence of the production area and irrigation dose on the nutritional composition of almonds, and evaluate resistant varieties to 'Xylella fastidiosa' in different water conditions in organic farming.
