The Spanish Government has expressed concerns to the European Union about the rising production costs in its agricultural sectors, blaming increased prices in animal feed, energy, and fertilizers. The government is pushing for coordinated European measures to aid the most affected sectors. Attention was also drawn to the plight of farmers in La Palma, hit by the Cumbre Vieja volcano. On the international front, Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, has advocated for EU positions such as transparency in aid communication, the removal of export restrictions, and reciprocity in agri-food trade at the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference. He also outlined Spain's negotiation priorities for EU-UK fishing quotas in 2022.
