The sugarcane sector in Bolivia declared an emergency due to a perceived brake on exports, but the Vice Minister of Internal Trade, Gróver Lacoa, stated that sugar exports are functioning normally. The government is enforcing Supreme Decree 3456 to ensure supply conditions and fair prices for the population. Despite this, the sugarcane sector is requesting a meeting with authorities to discuss the sector's performance and projections for 2022. In the 2021 harvest, Bolivia exported 1.8 million quintals of sugar to Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Ecuador, and the government has urged sugar mills and institutions to comply with a security stock volume of 1.5 million quintals of sugar to ensure normal supply to the Bolivian population.
