The grain harvesting season in Latvia began unusually early this year, said farmers interviewed by LETA. Farmers in southern Zemgale began threshing the first winter barley at the end of June. On average, he said, grains of all crops are ripening seven to ten days earlier this year than in other years. At the same time, Amsils noted that the amount of barley currently accepted is still relatively small, and threshing has not begun throughout Latvia, so it is too early to judge the overall quality of the grain.
