Ukraine's Ministry of Agriculture is considering to increase apple imports due to significant damage to apple trees and other fruits by May frosts, particularly in the central regions. The Association of Fruit, Berry and Planting Material Producers reports that 50% to 70% of flowering apple trees in the Central Federal District have been damaged. The Ministry does not expect the production plan of at least 440 thousand tons of fruit and berry products to be affected, though. Experts predict a decrease in the harvest of various fruits and berries and a price increase of at least 15-20% due to higher production costs. The Ministry is also considering declaring a federal state of emergency and requesting government compensation for the damage.
