Spain: The Ministry of Agriculture and the IEO begin a fisheries research study on the Grand Bank of Newfoundland

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) begin the Platuxa research campaign, in the NAFO (Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization) regulation area, to evaluate fishing resources demersal fish of commercial interest to the Spanish fleet in the area. The campaign will be carried out aboard the oceanographic vessel of the Vizconde de Eza ministry which, with IEO research personnel on board, departs today from the port of Vigo heading to the Grand Bank of Newfoundland. The The main objective of this Platuxa campaign is the collection of data that allows estimating the abundance, biomass and demographic structure of the populations of interest in the 3NO divisions (international waters adjacent to the exclusive economic zone of Canada), up to a maximum depth of 1,500 meters.
