The Government is serious about reducing imports of strategic food commodities. Through cross-sector collaboration, the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) together with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek) are strengthening applied research.
The goal is to accelerate domestic production increases, particularly for four main commodities: wheat, soybeans, corn, and garlic.
"We are investigating how to increase productivity by involving all universities with expertise. We are pushing wheat, soybeans, corn, and garlic to produce beyond national standards," firmly stated Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman at the Ministry of Agriculture Central Office, Wednesday (28/5/2025).
These four commodities have so far still relied on foreign supply, even though Indonesia has great potential to develop them. The government is targeting significant productivity increases through research approaches that are directly applicable in the field.
