The Ministry of Agriculture supports the cultivation of industrial hemp in Spain due to its good environmental adaptation

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) in Spain is promoting the cultivation of industrial hemp due to its environmental benefits and suitability to Spain's climate. Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Begoña García, noted hemp's advantages such as preventing soil erosion, rapid growth, short production cycle, and high pest and disease tolerance, which minimizes the need for chemical treatments. The Industrial Hemp Cluster, consisting of various companies and growers, seeks to leverage hemp's applications in multiple industries including agriculture, food, pharmaceuticals, plastics, construction, and fuels. MAPA is also educating farmers on the legal aspects of hemp cultivation to address concerns about its narcotic compounds. García stressed the importance of support to unlock the sector's full potential, akin to other European nations.
