[Korean Farmers' Newspaper, Reporter Kim Young-min] With the ongoing high temperatures, there is concern about the spread of apple spider mites. Given that spider mites lay more eggs at higher temperatures, the importance of timely control measures is increasing. According to a survey conducted by the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science at the end of July in 24 farms across 8 apple production areas in Gyeongbuk Yeongju, Gyeongnam Geochang, Jeonbuk Jangsu, and other regions, spider mites were confirmed in 1 out of 3 (33.3%) of the targeted orchards. The average occurrence density reached 29.4 mites per 100 leaves. Compared to the same period last year, 25% of the apple orchards had spider mites, with an average density of 4 mites.
