Weather conditions have shifted the sowing dates for winter cereals: an expert on how to adjust protection has explained

Due to the volatile weather this year, the winter grain sowing campaign in Ukraine has been stretched out in time. Many farmers did not risk sowing seeds in dry soil and chose later dates for sowing, according to Ukravit. "Sowing at a later date always entails certain increased risks. After all, the grains must have time to develop to the appropriate phenological phase in order to successfully overwinter and resume vegetation in the spring," says Oleksandr Myhlovets, head of the agrotechnology department at Ukravit. According to him, well-loosened but not overgrown plants, with 3–4 stems on each and 3–4 leaves, a powerful root system, and a carbohydrate content in the tillering node at the level of 19–30% overwinter best.
