Ali Hosseini, a member of Iran's National Saffron Council, shared insights into the global demand for Iranian saffron, highlighting China, the UAE, Spain, Hong Kong, and Afghanistan as its main buyers. While the majority of these countries consume saffron, some serve as re-export hubs. Hosseini emphasized the need for the saffron industry to shift from raw material sales towards value-added products through processing. The National Saffron Council supports this transition by providing crucial industry insights to potential processors. However, Hosseini called for increased participation from both public and private sectors to establish more transformation industries, which he believes is crucial for the future sustainability and competitiveness of the saffron market.
