The Netherlands is the second largest whey producer in Europe after Germany

The Netherlands produces around 8.5 million tons of whey annually. With 16.3 million tons, Germany produces around 29% of European whey. With 6.9 million tons of whey produced annually, Poland is the third largest producer. Although whey is a residual flow from cheese production, the Netherlands, with 974,000 tons of cheese production per year, falls just outside the top 3 of European countries with the most cheese production. Once again, Germany produces the most cheese annually, 2.3 million tons. The top 3 also consists of France (1.9 million tons of cheese) and Italy (1.4 million tons of cheese).
