(Cheongju=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Chang-hae = The North Chungcheong Provincial Government announced on the 10th that it will pay public benefit allowances to farmers and fishermen about two months earlier than usual.
The province has been paying 600,000 won in public benefit allowances per farm since 2022, and explained that it has reflected the request of farmers and fishermen to advance the payment period.
This year, a total of 76,804 farms are eligible for the public benefit allowance, an increase of 5,872 farms from last year.
This is the result of relaxing one of the payment criteria, the period of maintaining a farming or fishing business in the province, from "more than three years" to "more than one year."
The total amount to be paid is expected to be 46.1 billion won.
Currently, payments have been completed in Jecheon City (9,718 people), Eumseong County (7,260 people), and Boeun County (5,930 people) using local currency, and the remaining cities and counties are scheduled to make payments sequentially by mid-month.
Provincial Agricultural Policy Division Director Kang Chan-sik said, "For farmers and fishermen who have not applied by the deadline, we plan to minimize omissions by considering the situation of each city and county and accepting additional applications until the end of the year."
