The Netherlands has seen a significant decrease in the number of veal calves, with a 10 percent drop to 924,039 calves for 2024, down from over a million in the previous year. This is the first time the country has seen a decrease in veal calf numbers in six years. Additionally, there has been a 5 percent reduction in the import of veal calves, with the Netherlands importing 389,784 calves in the first half of 2024, down from 410,338 in the same period last year. The majority of these imports were from Germany.
