This year, the productive area is 609,514 hectares, which represents an increase of more than 10% compared to last year and more than 56,000 additional hectares in production, both in irrigated and rainfed areas in different zones, with special percentage relevance in Murcia, Valencian Community, and Castilla-La Mancha. This entry of production from new plantations has allowed compensation for the productive difficulties that have occurred: while the rains have been beneficial to mitigate the serious difficulties in many rainfed areas and improve soil water conditions, they have caused problems during pollination and fruit set, reducing yields.
