Due to the war, Ukraine now finds itself almost without its own salt, both in the East and in the West. This is reported by UNIAN. With reserves of 16 billion tons of salt, Ukraine is forced to import salt from abroad. In Zakarpattia, a salt mine in Solotvyno was flooded 20 years ago. Examinations deemed it inadvisable to resume production there. Neighboring deposits in the village of Tereblya halted production this year due to a corporate conflict among the owners. The Tereblya deposit was considered the most promising in terms of scale. Even though they mainly extract technical, not food, salt there. There are still deposits in Prykarpattia – in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, which, due to the passivity of the Zakarpattians, are eager to take over the leadership and profits of the largest national salt producer.
